McKnight's Podcast

Home care firm CareLinx thrives in value-based care world

Episode Summary

CareLinx is a unique kind of home care entity. The digital solution, whose biggest payer is Medicare Advantage, offers a national network of over 450,000 primarily nonmedical in-home caregivers. In spite of its size, the company also is surprisingly personal, offering families and patients the opportunities to provide caregiver preferences and needs. In a McKnight’s Home Care podcast, Francesca Rinaldo, MD, PhD, senior vice president of clinical product and innovation for CareLinx’s parent company, Sharecare, talks about how value-based care opens the door to innovation.

Episode Notes

Rinaldo expressed enthusiasm for the growth of nonmedical supplemental benefits under Medicare Advantage. Despite the limited hours under the in-home support services benefit, CareLinx provides a lot of value to the patient, identifying unmet social needs, for example, and helping patients arrive at wellness appointments. While fewer MA plans are offering in-home support services in 2024 — 867 versus 1,308 in 2023, according to research and advisory firm ATI Advisory — CareLinx is well-positioned to offer value with its services. In 2024, the company is looking to offering chronic care management services.
