In today’s labor market, it’s easy to see why skilled nursing providers are tempted to throw money at any potential employee and especially those applying for hard-to-fill positions.
But when it comes to key roles, those recruits are getting smarter about asking for the intangibles that really matter when it comes to hiring and retention, says Julie Osborne, a seasoned hiring expert and director of recruitment for national healthcare search firm LeaderStat.
With directors of nursing and other nurse leaders, the money may attract but it’s the workplace, the benefits and the follow-through that will get people through the door.
“Yes, the salary is attractive, but I will tell you it’s more culture, benefits, last survey history, what’s their staffing ratio?” Osborne said. “We’re getting very different questions. It’s not just salary-driven.”
In this episode hosted by McKnight’s Long-Term Care News Senior Editor Kimberly Marselas, learn what strategies Osborne sees working across the country, and why she thinks some traditional approaches just may not cut it anymore.
