The pandemic helped to raise the profile of the home care, or personal care, field. More needs to be done to elevate the field, said Vicki Hoak, CEO of the Home Care Association of America. She talked to McKnight’s Home Care about the need to implement a national quality standard, make it easier for Medicaid to pay for home care, implement immigration reform and prove home care’s value.
In this podcast, Vicki Hoak, CEO of the Home Care Association of America, shed light on the seriousness of the workforce shortage. She also presented priorities from the association’s recent State of Home Care, Industry at a Crossroads Report. And she expressed enthusiasm that Medicare Advantage is now offering home care as a supplemental benefit. Finally, despite Build Back Better’s failure to pass, she remains confident aspects of it will become law. Among them: the Credit for Caring Act, the Choose Home bill and the Elizabeth Dole Home and Community Based Services for Veterans and Caregivers Act.
